Who Are We?

About Us

The organisation is grounded in a strong legacy of community-driven education. The founder and Chairperson of Computers 4 KZN Schools (Dr Phindile Shangase), draws inspiration from a personal family history of educational development, as her grandfather (Ezrom Shangase) was the founder of KwaShangase Primary School, located in Thafamasi Village, Ndwedwe, South Africa.

In honour of this legacy, the organisation seeks to extend computer literacy opportunities to KZN rural schools through seeking computer donations on behalf of the schools. In line with this commitment, three computers were donated to KwaShangase Primary School in 2021, supporting the school’s efforts to introduce learners to basic digital literacy.
our Mission

We aim to enhance educational attainment of rural schools through technology enhanced learning as well as improvement of digital skills for both learners and educators. Computer and tablets donations are at the centre of our work. Old and non-functional computers that can longer be used assist in enabling students to learn more about their components, thereby serving as an inspiration to venture into computer technology studies in the future.

our story

Rural schools in KwaZulu-Natal lack digital educational resources, Internet access and school libraries. Therefore educational digital content is uploaded on the computers, including the chance to practice the use of keyboard. Training in basic computer skills is provided to both learners and educators.

our Work

We seek computer donations from Universities, Companies as well as the general public. Our volunteer who is IT graduate then checks the functionality of the donated computers and then we identify the school they are to be donated to.
